The food here is truly extraordinary. And the price to quality ratio, for one accustomed to Anglo-American or European prices, is out of this world. The cuisine compares favorably to many of the Michelin-starred restaurants I’ve eaten at before. The staff is also very friendly…and gracious. A must-stop, despite it’s out-of-the-way location in Ixtapa, if you’re in PV and looking for an elevated Mexican dining experience.More
An amazing culinary delight hidden in a true local PV neighborhood! I loved every aspect of this restaurant! Tremendously attentive staff, creative menu and ambiance that ties it all together. Most small restaurants choke when our crew of 11 arrive, but La Tienda Grande didn’t…miss a beat. Pork Belly tacos and Short Rib enchiladas are a must. Try the dumplings and the soup. Tasting menu is a good option when you want to eat the entire menu!More
The concierge in our building recommended this restaurant about 30 minutes or so away from Hotel Zone Norte in Puerto Vallarta. It was well worth the journey. We were greeted warmly by the host, and the service was great. Our friends split a warm Caesar…Salad, and my find had the full. All said it was delicious, especially the special dressing. I had a smoked fish sashimi, which arrived under a dome filled with a cloud! I would have preferred a little less sauce, but the dish was very good overall. The women each had short rib enchiladas, which they loved, and each took one of the three served home. The men had roast duck (breast and leg/thigh) which was perfectly just short of medium rare with a delicate crispy skin. No leftovers on that dish. The dessert was a chocolate cake (as opposed to the off-the-menu chocolate pie) which was dusted with chile de arbol. Everyone thought this was the least successful dish of the night. There is a full bar and a limited wine list with some nice offerings, but the by-the-glass choices were limited to one red and one white. This is not a bargain restaurant by Mexican standards, as entrees are in the MEX$320 to MEX$ 420, but service, presentation and portion make it reasonable in the end. There were two tasting menus (5 or 8 courses) which we might consider on our next visit. I would recommend this restaurant for a special night out, or more frequently if you are staying closer to it than we do.More
We have been coming to Puerto Vallarta for over 30 years. Someone had recommended La Tienda Grande to us. It was a little bit of a hike but worth it. The food was amazing. The Pork Belly Appetizer was to die for. The Short Rib…Enchiladas are full of flavor. The atmosphere was very hip but cozy. The staff was very attentive. We will make La Tienda a staple dinner place every time we come back to PV.More
La Tienda Grande is a gem. I had the tasting menu and got a fantastic variety of flavors. Every course was delicious and I couldn’t believe how each plate was better than the last. They had a little bit of everything and my only complaint…is I wish I was able to keep eating. Our server David was very friendly and spoke just enough English to guide us through the experience expertly despite our lack of Spanish. The owners and chef and bartender were also simply wonderful. Definitely worth the trip to Ixtapa, just a short car ride away from PV.More
I’ve never liked mole but they have done it right. Chef came to ask and recommend and didn’t disappoint. This chef knows food. Mushroom soup was great and the environment was inviting. You’d never expect this level of find dining in the neighborhood. Don’t sleep…on this placeMore
This is a small restaurant outside of tourist Puerto Vallarta and well worth the trip. Thoughtful, pleasing environment. Food was amazing, creative and very well priced. The dessert I had, an almond cake with caramel was one of the best desserts I have had in…awhile – and I know my desserts. My friend had the tasting menu (7 items) and each item outdid the previous. Staff attentive and friendly but not hovering. Manager chatted with us, very friendly and pleasant. Saw couples there, families with a kid, and friends (which we were). I would absolutely returnMore
Tonight we went to La Tienda Grande for dinner. First of all it’s far from old town. It’s in Ixtapa. But the trip to so worth it. Our meal was out of this world. Super good and the California standards super reasonable. Look at our…photos.More
Some restaurants become food destinations for the location or uniquenesses. La Tienda Grande is a food destination for its incredible food. Make reservations! It’s a small interesting restaurant. Service was very good. Food was spectacular. Our orders of capriccio salad, pork belly taco, Dubai lamb,…shrimp ravioli, beef tongue were visually stunning and amazing. The food really is world class good. The cocktails are also great. This place is worth the trip to visit and folks from Vallarta, La Paz and Bucerias are doing just that.More
Our dinner at La Tienda Grande was truly one of the most beautifully presented, creative, and delicious meals we have EVER had…anywhere! My husband and I both had the 7 course tasting menu which was just unbelievable! Our friends had, and loved, the ravioli with…shrimp, and the duck breast in orange chocolate sauce. We all started off with one (or more) of their wonderful specialty drinks, and their complimentary croquettes! If you haven’t been, make reservations, go, and don’t miss out! La Tienda Grande is SOOO worth the drive to Ixtapa! Congratulations to Salvador, Gabriel, and the entire talented staff!!! ???? ¡Muy Muy Rico! ¡Gracias al personal de La Tienda Grande por una experiencia gastronómica muy hermosa! ❤️More
A Hidden Gem In a small town 5 miles from Puerto Vallarta sits this little treasure. Good drinks from classic Margaritas to world class Martinis plus some of their own concoctions. From a taco made with pork belly to my main of Duck quasadeas ….The others has flank steak and an excellent shrimp ravioli. Add on to that a special chocolate desert with ice cream and end with espresso. Kitchen is one you can see into and watch 7-9 people preparing your meal. It is worth the Uber fare if you don’t have wheels. Try it staff , service and food excellent. Saw a guy go by on horseback, no lie.More
This little very out of the way place is a GEM. However, at 1st glance of the menu we weren’t sure if we wanted to stay. Reasons being many of the items were not typically Mexican. After talking to the server he told us the…chef studied here in Mexico and also in Dubai. We decided to stay and man were we happy. The chef combined his skills and created some of the most incredible dishes I have ever tasted. We started with a cream of Shallot soup. YUMMY.. I had the Arrancherra which was more tender than the best fillet minion I have ever had anywhere!!! Strongly recommend reservations.. People were arriving in taxis from Buceriars as well as La Cruz.More
Went there tonight for the first time with friends. Great Food, reasonable prices, i don’t think they take credit cards or US Funds, only Pesos. BUT, you must make a reservation, the restaurant is not large and very busy. Awesome Bartender, would definitely go back,…but would check out taxi cost first. We came from Bay View Grand in the Marina area. had a friend drive, so not sure of taxi prices, since they have been all over the map this year. enjoy,More
We drove all the way from La Cruz to Ixtapa (50 minutes) just to try this restaurant and are darn glad we did. It was actually an easy route and very easy to find. The minute we approached the building and entered it we knew…they wanted us to have a beautiful experience -be it decor, food, or staff. The interior is a work of minimalist art. The food is thought out and prepared with incredible attention to details without being that “pretentious smarmy gourmet” that is so off-putting and expensive. Prices were moderate, servings were filling, flavors are galactic, service is warm and caring. This may be the finest Mexican food dining experience in the entire PV-Nayarit area. After 20 years of coming here we’ve discovered La Tienda Grande and put it at the top of our “special, must go to” list of restaurants.More
Don’t let the out of the way location stop you. This is a diamond in the rough. Excellent service. Eclectic and varied menu. From the chef’s amuse bouche, through the seared tuna, pork belly taco, duck sous-vide and short ribs. All beautifully plated and presented….One in our party felt that the short ribs were perhaps the only ‘very good’ rather than excellent dish but we gave it a 5 just the same because, as a package, that is what it deserved. We enjoy fine dining in PV, but often it’s too much show, too little go. Not this place. Make the trip. Well worth the effort.More
