We were introduced to this lovely spot by friends, with whom we shared appetizers and small plates including the spinach and cheese empanada, octopus and pork belly casserole, the fire roasted ceviche (lightly smoked, warm, and with a fabulous presentation). All were cooked beautifully and…had great flavors…Mexico with a twist. My husband and I returned another night to try the steak side of the menu, and enjoyed again lovely food along with a revelation of a red blend from Baron Balche (Valle de Guadalupe) that paired perfectly. The staff was charming, attentive and made two separate nights equally lovely. Thank you, and we can’t wait to return.More
If you’ve spent any time in Zona Romantica, you’ve probably walked past this restaurant. It’s been a few different things, but finally this establishment got it right! From craft cocktails to signature dishes, everything has been fantastic. They have one of the best burgers in…town in my opinion. There are also varied other options, such as Mexican, traditional and seafood. Don’t sleep in this place.More
We are big Chile en Nogada fans and the their version Chile Toneles was amazing. A flavor bomb. Lovely service and an elegant space.
We have come to Puerto Vallarta for the last 16 winters and still love to try to new restaurants. We like everything from taco bars to high end, as long as the food is good. This one is a real find. Can’t say enough about…this restaurant. First time we have been here. This location has been several restaurants in recent years–believe Los Toneles is relatively new. Sure hope they do well. Easy to find location on Basillo Badillo in Zona Romantica, with very nice decor. Had five items between the two of us and each item was gourmet level food and presentation. Everything was absolutely delicious and service was excellent; We had: $5 meat taco appetizer that was a small meal in itself and was filled with small pieces of one of the best filet mignon cuts in town. Roasted cauliflower in a fine cheese sauce–delicious Empenada –flaky and delicious Roasted stuffed Chile pepper filled with meat and nut mix–reminiscent of a great Chile nogada but without the pomegranates. Best stuffed Chile we’ve ever had. Rolled beet salad-really tasty salad with a lot of finesse. Couldn’t tell we liked this place, huh? Highly recommend.More
Los Toneles is a great restaurant! Location is in the heart of ZR. The decor is stunning, classy yet refined (not loud). We had cocktails before dinner and they were delicious. The food! While having some unique items the food is incredible. We had Beef…filet taco with bone marrow, beet salad, blue cheese burger and sesame crusted tuna. Each one was excellent. Service. Knowledgeable, passionate, friendly, professional. I cannot emphasize how great the service is here. Prices. Extremely good.More
Some truly delicious food here. The empanadas were scrumptious! I also tried my friend’s stuffed pepper dish and it was full of flavor! The service was also excellent, a lovely experience all around.
We were really pleased to have chosen El Tonel for dinner, we did not have any reference or referral. Walking around zona romántica in Puerto Vallarta we decided to have dinner at El Tonel, this turned out to be a great decision, we really enjoyed…not only the food which was delicious and nicely presented but the service was impecable. This was my favorite restaurant in PV. Chef is Mexican. She must have gone to the best culinary school. Excellent presentation & flavor. Wonderful tacos. I have traveled all over Mexico and this restaurant is one of my favorites.
From the moment we walked in the door everyone was very attentive. Carlos was our main waiter. He was outstanding. He made sure that everything was to our liking and fixed it if it wasn’t. We had the filet mignon with shrimp on a bed…of mashed potatoes. The steak was cooked to perfection. You have a choice of the chef finishing your steak in the kitchen or flaming it at you table. That was our choice. Quite a presentation and the steak turned out so tender and cooked perfectly. We also recommend the crab cake. So delicious. This was our second time here and we will definitely go back. Thank you Los Tonales , Carlos and the staff for making our evening an enjoyable one.More

Los Toneles was recommended to us from a gate agent who was rebooking our flight in the airport. She had been here a few months ago and said it was really good! For once I’m glad for the delay because this was great advice! The…atmosphere, staff, food and drinks were all great! Carlos was our waiter and he was superb! The beet salad was OMG incredible and the filet melted in your mouth. I am so thankful we had to change our flight! It was worth the taxi ride and I’d highly recommend it!More

First time steak was so so 2nd time restaurant week – Epic fail will never go back. Couldn’t order what we wanted and no flaming food as advertised. We got off and left.

Words fail me. we just walked in and asked to be seated. No expectations. Holy moly. Excellent service, truly excellent. Great ambiance, very stylish. Then the food came. The chips were fantastic, the dips were fantastic. Then the appetizer and the main courses came. It…kept getting better, really. I have had great food in Puerto Vallarta almost everywhere, but this deserves 6 stars. Just stop and have anything, you will not be disappointed. Just wow.More

Beautiful setting, great food, attentive and fun staff and cool Arcano-esque live music. I had the Restaurant Week flamed on your table fillet and wife had Chiles Toneles. 2 x 1 margaritas were tasty as well. Would definitely return.

I wish I hadn’t waited until my last night here so I’m could come back. Everyone introduced themselves and made sure I had everything I needed, when I needed it. No up-selling which I always appreciate. I had the seed crusted tuna raw with a…bowl of roasted vegetables. It came with a deep fried avocado wedge that was perfectly cooked. I had a Aperol Spritzer that was perfect on a warm night. The atmosphere was quietly understated on the busy downtown street of Basilio Badillo. Perfect people watching too.More
