Having just bought a Gatorade from the pharmacy near by, some man on the sidewalk asks me and my husband if we just bought drugs?! The comment made us chuckle and we struck up a conversation with the comical man on the corner. He invited…us to visit his restaurant for dinner promising if we didn’t like it, the meal would be free. Mind you, we were staying at the all inclusive Sunset Plaza. However since it was our last night, we figured why not support a local business. Boy are we glad we did! From the tequila to the food, everything was simply top notch. The conversation Victor shared with my husband about tequila was just as memorable. Even the fan he pointed at me (so I didn’t melt in the Mexican humidity) was much appreciated! Don’t be afraid to leave the resort and try this place, you won’t regret it!More

I’ve been to this restaurant a handful of times now and will keep going every time I’m in Puerto Vallarta. The owner is the most charismatic, most willing to go the extra mile person I think I have met. His wife, also the chef, is…amazing. The menu has a great selection and I have enjoyed everything I’ve had. Please go visit this restaurant and support a local family.More

Thank you Victor for you food, drink and more importantly warm and friendly welcome. We really enjoyed our visits to your establishment. It was so much more than the great food and drinks, it was your enthusiasm and great service. Thank you for your various…recommendation during our trip, pointing out numerous points of interest for our period in the beautiful Puerto Vallarta. Without your advise we would not of seen the Raccoons. Plus a big thank you for the supply of Aloe Vera direct from your very own planters. We are very sorry, we are not a fast food restaurant. no cheap food. We are in the tourist strip and the products that I use are of quality and their cost is high. That’s why I can’t give you fast food prices, I don’t…More

The “owner” made our visit totally uncomfortable with his “in your face” tactics and attempted comedy. His obvious staring at every female walking passed was also noted. The food was passable but pricey. He also showed my female companion the bathroom, then tried to go…in with her! Not recommended and will not return.More

I’ve eaten here 2 nights in a row. A street front restaurant you can people watch or just enjoy the food. I didn’t try their margaritas but the lemonade was great! First night they were out of the whole red snapper so O had butterflied…fired shrimp. 7 huge shrimp! Once I heard she had flan for dessert I saved the rest of the shrimp for a later snack and had the flan. Lovely presentation and was delicious. Went back today for the whole fresh red snapper. Tender and delicious. Served with tortillas and a side of rice and salad. Again couldn’t finish it all so took it home. The woman is a wonderful server, her husband provides the entertainment and his patter brings people in. The kitchen is up stairs so she stays slim by efficiently delivering your food piping hot. May have to go back to try the “mummy” shrimp. Shrimp grilled and wrapped in bacon. Another group had the steaks which looked great and they devoured it all. Do stop for dinner!More

Should have written this review when at this restaurant twice in June. On arriving early June, I went exploring from Villa del Palmar south, looking for changes during COVID. Hadn’t been there for 16 months. I couldn’t find La Casa de Mi Compadre on my…trek — we’d enjoyed it several times in previous trips. Previous location was a tee-shirt shop. I was sad they may have closed for good, like so many places during COVID. Kept exploring south. What a surprise — there was Victor out on the sidewalk (as usual) and his wife inside —- in their new location in the Villas Vallarta building near Canto del Sol and Mar Elena Suites — two blocks south of their previous location. We’ve had a numerous dishes there in the past (favorites are the arrachera and coco shrimp) — also outstanding margaritas made from real ingredients. For my big meal, I had their coco shrimp — my favorite anywhere, so had that dish this time. The shrimp are huge and have a perfect blend of crispy coconut topping, seasonings and massive shrimp. Cooked fresh — sizzling on the plate — with a unique presentation of garlic mashed potatoes. The shrimp are so large — I took half the dish back to my hotel for another meal later. They can be split as a main dish for a couple. Food and friendliness were consistent in the new location. I was able to sit down with them and Victor explained where he got his shrimp. Fresh from Mazatlan. Victor explained all the work they’d done from scratch on the building and are doing to build the second floor That they could gut and create and reconstruct something so “old world-PV” and beautiful during an economic downturn period was inspiring to me. We’re looking forward to visiting soon, to see their visionary building project that should be complete by high season and will be a huge asset to that neighborhood. It might be the hottest spot in town by then. Even in June, the ambience and potential was clear. For anyone going soon during high season — who ate at the old location —- don’t go to the old location north of the old Blake’s (it’s not there now either). Head south toward Mar Elena Suites. New location is right north of that corner. For everyone who’s been to the old location — do check out the new one. Food and drinks outstanding as before. The family that owns it hasn’t changed. They welcome you like family.More

We happened upon La Casa de Mi Compadre while walking around near our resort. The owners, Victor and Marisela, immediately felt like family. Marisela’s margaritas are different than any other one I’ve ever tasted (and I’ve enjoyed A LOT of margaritas). We ended up going…3 different times and ate aguachile verde (best we’ve ever eaten), steak & hamburgers. My favorite night was when we enjoyed the Mexico vs. US soccer game. Our experiences here were some of the best we had in Puerto Vallarta and we will definitely visit our new friends again when we go back.More

Honestly, I didn’t even eat here, but was walking by utterly lost. Whoever opened up, I didn’t get his name but I did get their card was so incredibly helpful. Asked if I was looking for something, offered advice on how to get downtown, how…to get around there and what to watch it for. Completely unnecessary, and without any prompting, but the most helpful person I’ve met here. If I get a chance I’ll definitely eat here just for bring such a nice person.More
