I went for breakfast at La Chata this morning. The view was to die for and the food excellent. The best corn tortillas I’ve had since I arrived in November. The omelet and cappuccino were also excellent. Highly recommend for lower cost breakfast. Under 200…pesos, plus tip. I’ll be going back soon.More

Was recommended this place by a few locals. I wanted authentic Mexican food without the Faff. One of the first things that was said to me by the waiter AFTER I had been shown to my table and sat down “Cash Only ) I said…ok with me. Dining solo it wasn’t going to break the bank. Went for the chicken burritos. Lovely accompaniments but chicken was real tough. Sort of felt left alone and not really welcome there. Much better places to eat downtown. Such a shame as could be much much better with little effort.More

I have lived in Puerto Vallarta for 11 years. I first visited La Chata at their location in the Centro Historico in Guadalajara many years ago but started going to theit location on the malecon here when it opened some years ago. In fact, I…have often taken guests from out of town there because it’s a great place to watch the sunset. I have never found their food to be exceptional, but until yesterday it was always good enough. Yesterday at approximately 4 PM I went there for a meal. I ordered chicken enchiladas in a mole sauce. Not only was it horrible, it was maybe the worst meal I have ever had in a restaurant in PV! The tortillas used to make the enchiladas were either very old or the enchiladas were extremely over-cooked. They were as tough as cow hide. I should have complained and asked for a different meal. I doubt that I will ever go there again. I rated this experience with one circle, but it didn’t even deserve that.More

Excellent breakfast with a wonderful ocean view. Our waiter, Alfredo, was great!! Central location in the heart of Puerto Vallarta.

I live in Puerto Vallarta and took my visiting cousin there last night. It’s one of her favorite restaurants here due to the correctly made guacamole, other good traditional Mexican dishes, generous portions and wonderful view of the ocean with lots of windows and balconies….This is a very minor issue, but they have the flimsiest paper napkins I have ever seen, far too thin like tissue paper. When you’re eating oily chips and need to wipe your hands it requires several of their napkins. They are not even thick or large enough to protect your clothes if some salsa accidentally drips in your lap. I do not object to paper napkins in general, but La Chata’s napkins must be the cheapest in all of Mexico.More

Went here for dinner as there were positive reviews. As a previous reviewer wrote – the red flag should have hit us as there was no one else there. We ignored it as we thought it was too early for people to be having dinner,…6 pm. The food was fair, we had the special mahi-mahi, but it was heavy with cream and butter and not exactly what we were looking for. We came home and snacked as dinner didn’t cut it. Service was good but – as the only one of two tables it seemed to take forever to get our food and then it was lukewarm. God thing they gave us chips and salsa. We will not be returningMore

We discovered La Chata on our way to the Choco Museo. We had time for breakfast and chose the wonderful fruit plate with yogurt and granola. They serve cinnamon coffee which is a rare find. We returned this last Sunday for dessert as we had…been to see a musical group that included lunch. Again we were so impressed with food, service and atmosphere. Enjoyed flan and horchata.. so authentic and a rare find on menus. We plan to have a full meal when we return next year. A beautiful view of the waterfront overlooking the Malecon from the 2nd floorMore

Went there because of the positive reviews . It was dinner hour and we were the only ones in the restaurant so that was a bit of a red flag . The food was good and the service was as well. Couldn’t help but notice…other restaurants close by that were full of people .More

Loved the balcony dinning and the friendly staff. Highly recommend the chicken nachos as an appetizer and the 1/4 chicken & enchiladas as the main dish.

La Chata was one of my favorite restaurants on the Malecon but in August that changed. Went for dinner with friends and stayed for the entertainment. Needed to visit the restroom, asked manager to watch my table and bag. When I came back money had…been taken from wallet and my cell was gone. Can’t trust anyone anymore.More

I had a coupon and went by myself. The shrimp ceviche had maybe 3 shrimps, the rest was vegetables. The chicken was so stringy and dry, it took 3 minutes to chew and swallow the one bite I ate. Everything was soaked in some tasteless…red sauce. The enchilada was mushy and had a little bit of some type of cheese. The potatoes were cooked in grease, but still hard in the middle. The best part of the dinner was a nice view. This was the worst meal I have had since 2015 when I moved here.More

Very good food enjoyed from a balcony table, looking out over the ocean while a guitarist plays/sings Besa Me Mucho. Awesome time here. Will come again.

This place was well worth stopping in to eat dinner. The food was excellent, and the waitstaff was exceptional. If you are looking for a place with a perfect view and quiet meal, then you have stopped at the right place. Highly recommended.
