This is a hidden gem well worth finding. Cuco and staff took very good care of me. It can be weird sometimes in Mexico as a female dining solo, but I was welcomed and made to feel very comfortable. The restaurant itself is unassuming on…the outside, but on the inside it is filled with art and color. I’m always looking for good mole, and this was the best mole I’ve ever had, with just the right mix of sweetness and a spicy bite. Lovely place, lovely staff, muchas gracias por la comida maravillosa!More

We fell in love with The Red Cabbage Cafe years and we return time and time again. The best service and consistently delicious food along with some tasty margaritas make this one of our favorite dining experiences. It has this charm about the interior that’s…so inviting. The staff are Amazing! Super friendly, attentive and will do what ever it takes for you to have a wonderful dining experience time and time again. Authenticity is the key word here. Authentic dishes. When we vacationed in Puerto Vallarta we had to come at least twice duding the week. . Now that we live closer, about an hour and a half north) we try to come more often. They typically close during low season June to October as many restaurants do so be aware of that.More

Always wanted to try this place. Seemed to have raving reviews. Tried it a couple weeks ago. It is very nicely decorated inside. Server seemed frosty at first but warmed up a little as the evening went by. I ordered the pork shank. It was…good but only came with two items on the plate. Three or four small pieces of the pork shank and mashed potatoes. I was done in probably under four minutes. Tasty but could afford to at least put something else on the plate. The main reason I would never return is the noise level. It was almost unbearable. That’s the end result putting 25 people …only guessing….into a phone booth to eat. Not enjoyable at all. If you don’t mind a high noise level, it’s probably fine for you. I like to be able to have a conversation at our table but it was difficult to do so.More

Disappointed. Very bland flavors with my Chiles de Picadillo and the dish seemed very textureless and over cooked. Had much better stuffed green peppers for lower price else where in Mexico. Friday evening and only 3 other couples there. There was only one other couple…when we left. We left to have dessert elsewhere and thus saved our penultimate evening out in Mexico from being a total disappointment.More

The reviews were so good, we made a point of going to this restaurant. It was a huge disappointment. My fish was was nicely cooked but overwhelmed by the tinned tomatoes, olives, and sauce which oddly was not very flavorsome and did nothing for the…fish. Plenty of vegetables but again some like the beans very sad, just old. My husband’s dish as well was a miss. We left feeling very let down, certainly not what we expected after reading the reviews.More

We’re baffled by the positive reviews of this restaurant. Perhaps it used to be good? Food was mediocre at best – definitely avoid anything with “ensalada” in the name. And although the restaurant was not at all busy, the waiter was brusque almost to the…point of rudeness.More

I came here based on reviews and wanted to try something traditional. The tables filled up quickly with mostly Americans. The family running the restaurant was friendly and had good service. The menu was a little confusing and the descriptions could probably use a little…work. I had a chipotle chicken dish that was tasty and very spicy. The rice on the side was different from any other Mexican style rice I’ve ever had. Guacamole and pico was very tasty but the chips were very hard and I was a little worried I would hurt a tooth on them. Classic margarita was not good at all. Smelled like straight tequila and tasted like a shot. There’s not much to do around the area.More

Had dinner there last night, 5 of us, and again, the food is amazing, Cuco always a pleasure to see, excellent service. I had Freda’s Wedding Menu, I think it is the best offer for your money, others had the Pork Shank and Chiles Rellennos….Their food is something out of this world. Freshly made, great portions and excellent prices. You must give it a try. Some work going on outside Restaurant, so make sure the taxi knows to go around the block if you get stuck. Closed Sunday and you need to make a reservation and only CASH. We always make a point of heading there at least once a month while we are there. I don’t think you can get better food for the price anywhere in P.V.More

The red cabbage is the quintessential classic Mexican dinner experience. This restaurant was one of my grandmothers’ favorites in the 90’s and it’s still the highlight of our trip every year. Kuko and Lola are absolutely wonderful hosts. I highly recommend the classic Mexican dishes,…carnitas, conchinita pibil, and pollo chipotle. As well they have the best margaritas in town. We just love it here.More

We never miss an opportunity to experience dining at the Red Cabbage with every trip some time multiple times! We enjoy the ambiance and the staff who are always very welcoming and super friendly, it’s just like you’ve come home. A few of our favorite…dishes are the peanut soup, Chilis en Nogada, Chilis Rellenos, Chilis de Picadillo. Everything we have had are delicious with complex flavors and typically light on spice as everyone knows, traditionally Mexican cuisine is NOT spicy but possess more developed flavors. Red Cabbage always knocks it out of the park for us and they make a damn good margarita too! You need to grab an Uber and have dinner at the Red Cabbage we think you’ll agree with us and it’ll be on your list for every visit, just like us. You might even see Lola as we did! She’s such a sweet lady. Coco we think you’re the best!!More

Ok but nothing to write home about. Overpriced for the location. So many better Mexican restaurants in town. I will give it another try due to the people who rave about it.

Lola Bravo, the owner, has an amazing little restaurant in an out of the way location. As soon as you enter the place, you sense the wonderful calm that permeates throughout. Fantastic artistic treasures adorn the walls and hint at wonderful things to come. The…staff is enthusiastic and helpful in every way possible, and have a great sense of humour. Then there’s the food. No compromise here. Everything is made with top quality ingredients and prepared to perfection. A perfect variety of chicken, pork, beef and fish dishes are offered. Exactly what you need when you can’t make up your mind. My wife and I chose pork dishes for our first time and they were done to perfection. Now we’ve got to go back and try more things. Thank you Lola, and staff, for this unique restaurant and the superior effort you go to to make sure your customers are well fed and happy.More

Charming and very authentic Mexican food and decor.   The food was excellent and not overly spiced.   The chips and guacamole were great.   They have limited hours and not on the main drag.   Well worth the short cab ride or long walk…. More
