Actually I’d say 4.5 out of 5…the food was excellent to say to least, all agreed by the 8 in our party. I’m not sure if they were understaffed but the service was a bit slow. Our waitress and also it appeared she was doing…some cooking (open kitchen) Jackie, was excellent. Amongst our friends & family 2 had the fish tacos, 2 shrimp tacos, 1 shrimp brochette, not sure about the other 2 as they were sitting down the table. The cocktails were out of this world, and large to boot. The prices were reasonable, as described $$ or $$$ pesos. As we were ready to leave, our friendly and engaging waitress offered us a bottle of wine to take home as compensation for the slow service.. we were happy enough with the food and great value.More

First time eating here on a Monday night. The all you can eat ribs night for 310 pesos is Thursdays and Saturdays. I had the combo for 250 pesos which is half rack with a choice of fries or mash potatoes and veggies along with…a bowl of tortilla soup. The sauce on the ribs was very tasty with a nice slight tang but with sweetness; however, the ribs were slightly dry. It was a good size piece of half rack with a small portion of fries. Son had the full rack for 300 pesos and was a lot of ribs but no soup. The tortilla soup was absolutely awful as it tasted like a can of inferior tomato soup with lots of shredded chicken, cheese, tortillas, and avocados. There was absolutely no taste of lime or chicken but tinny tomato soup. Huge disappointment. Service was top notch and our server was extremely attentive, friendly, spoke English, and always had a smile. At the end of our meal, they called an Uber for us for 60 pesos back to our apartment. Will we return to Ernesto’s, the answer would have to be no and that’s because it really is not a deal and the tortilla soup was not good. There has been a mixed review of the tortilla soup and I have to say I have tasted much much better ones in Mexico.More

We arrived a table of 8, no reservations but no problem. Incredible mango margaritas. Unbelievable taco soup. Large bowl will quell any appetite. Comes with bread to sop up juices. One of the best I’ve tasted.

Fast as tic guacamole, tortilla soup and fajitas. All fresh and homemade. The ribs smelled awesome but we could only eat so much. Small and off the beaten path to say the least but awesome food and service.

The appearance and upkeep of Ernesto’s has gone downhill since we last ate here, quite a few years ago. But the service was quick and friendly, the tortilla soup is still excellent, as are the ribs. Plentiful portions, reasonable prices. It was definitely worth a…return visit. And the big tree is still there!More

Heard about great tortilla soup and ribs. Did not disappoint. Had the combo which included the soup, ribs and vegs. Good portions. House wine (red) was decent. Staff very friendly. Were the first ones there on a Wed at 5pm. By the time we left,…place was 3/4 full. Would recommend.More

My wife and I were excited to try Ernesto’s. We have spent the past 7-8 years sampling tortilla soup (one of many “things” we like to do in PV) all over PV and read all the reviews and praise for Ernesto’s being the best in…town. So our anticipation was bubbling. We split a large bowl which would definitely be enough for one to have for dinner as it was packed with tortilla strips, avocado, cheese and chicken. If you want tortilla soup that is a meal, this is the place. Unfortunately the actual soup (flavor of the broth) was only OK and the ample additions in some ways reduced the flavor it had. It was good just not great and certainly not the best in PV (in our opinions). Nacho Daddy downtown and Casa Tradicional across from the Cathedral both have much more “soup flavor: than this one. If only rating the soup, we would have given Ernesto;’s a 4. The reason for a 2 is everything else. The service we received was worst we’ve experienced in 8 years coming to PV. And that is not hyperbole. Ignored when drinks were empty. Guac that was ordered came out about 15-20 minutes after first drinks and salsa/chips were served and right before food came out. My shrimp dish came out about 15 minutes after wife’s BLT baguette. Shrimp was overcooked and baguette was meh. Margarita looked and tasted like dishwater. Had to ask bus boy for another Pacifico and still waited 15+ minutes for another bottle. We may try again as the tortilla soup is good (just NOT great) but will definitely hesitate before coming back. Honest review would have been 1 star but for the soup. I really wanted this to be good but the honest opinion is bottom 2/3 restaurants we’ve been to in PV. Soooo many excellent options and this place seemed to be going through the motion and that is a fail.More

Been going here off and on for many ears. We had a shrimp salad which was excellent and the 1/2 rack of ribs with tortilla soup. Also excellent. Was disappointed in the ribs only because the BBQ sauce seems to have changed, not that it…was bad, just not my taste; too heavy and smoky. Having said that it’s always a good evening out at a good family restaurant.More

I felt like I had rediscovered PV of 20+ years ago when I first started visiting. This is one of the few remaining gems left of what was once a very common experience in Puerto Vallarta before the Canadian-American requirement of bringing ‘home’ to Mexico….The tortilla soup everyone raves about is as described – amazing! The ribs are first class. And the grilled shrimp skewer was perfect, generous and lots of vegetables. The service non-rushed and efficient. It’s a one of the best!More

Great food. Goo atmosphere. Portion were huge. We ordered the steak, chicken and mushroom gravy, pork chops, tortilla soup and ribs. You get two steaks, two chicken breasts, two pork chops….with one order! We couldn’t eat it all! The tortilla soup is the best I’ve…had in Mx yet! They had some really nice live music….just a singer with backing tracks but it was great. Highly recommend. I’ll let you find out for yourself if the “rules” on the sign are enforced… 😉More

We went with another couple on a Thursday night which is all you can eat ribs. The 2 fellas had the tortilla soup which they said was wonderful. We all had the ribs which were great but none of us had room for seconds. I…would highly recommend this place . We asked for the recipe for the soup and they gave us a printed copies I guess customers ask for it often.More

A small Tortilla soup and a half rack of baby back ribs. The soup was loaded with chicken and cheese and was one of the tastiest that I have eaten in PV.. RIBS were good and I definitely would return for just a large serving…of the tortilla soup!! Obviously a family run restaurant and typical of an off the main drag Mexican eatery!More
