Small sports bar located on the second level overlooking Olas Altas. It has gone through several change of owners and names but remains the same. Food is very cheap and the beer is very cold. What more could you ask for? this is a great…place to go for a nice Mexican lunch. Nothing fancy but always tasty and consistent.More
Don’t go! Tried it 3 times this year, so my own fault for going back. First time, mouldy bread: I told the server, who understood, but didn’t care. Second time, I was the only customer but still got terrible service. The last time, I had…just finished eating and was still drinking my drink when a larger group came in. The picked up my table and moved it for them, and I was left standing in the middle of the room with my drink in my hand! Unbelievable!!!!!More
We had the scrambled egg platter with bacon. And the shrimp and spinach omelet. Meals come with beans, potatoes, toast and jelly. Raul was our entertainment he was super nice and accommodating. Will definitely go back during our trip. They have a daily dinner special…too. Couldn’t finish it all, big portion. Total bill including coffee and juice 1650 pesos.More
Went to the Thirsty Cougar for lunch and a beer. You go up several stairs to get to the restaurant, the place was clean and bathrooms as clean as Mexican standards. We sat along the railing so we had a street view and were able…to do some people watching. Our waiter did not speak english well if he did at all. My husband had a Club House sandwich and he found the portion small and the sandwich substandard. I ordered a Taco salad with chicken but got the Chef’s salad with dried out chicken and no dressing. There are better restaurants in PV so I will not be going back to this restaurant.More
Went In for a quick drink and some food, 2 other tables that came in after us got served both food & drinks after we ordered about 1/2 hour after us! It took about 20 minutiae to get a drink, when food finally came which…was only poutine it was cold. We ate it anyway because we were hungry and it was later in the eve. At the end of our poutine I went to take a last bite and there was a long hair! We said we were not going to pay they argued and cMore
I am not sure what happened to this place but it use to be great. Now it was just ok it is like they don’t care anymore. The service is slow even for Vallarta and the food is just kinda bland I hope they get…it together cause it use to have a great vibe.More
This used to be a favorite place to grab a drink (or 3) and some food. I loved sitting by the rail and watching the hustle and bustle on the street below. I was amazed to walk in to see a handful of people. Despite…this, no one came to take my drink order and after the waitstaff passed many times and avoided eye contact, I got up and walked out. So disappointing.More
We’ve been going to this place for the last 3 years, this morning we walk up the stairs and to our amazement the place is empty!!!! Atmosphere completely different, they have rock videos playing in the morning instead of the regular channel. Anyways service is…fairly bland not much interaction, had to asked for bill twice. I ordered my regular, chilaquilles in red sauce but wasn’t the same, fairly dry! Anyways we tried it but don’t think we will be back. To bad I miss the old placeMore
We have been eating here once or twice a season for years. We went at 9:00 on a Friday night and there was no one else there. We somewhat nervously ordered drinks, salads and dinner. Of course, service was good. When the food arrived we…were pleasantly surprised that it was as tasty as it had always been. We the Caesar salad with chicken, club house sandwich, coconut shrimp and the special of the day, pork chop. All were tasty with good portions. Prices as reasonable as ever. We will certainly return.More
Home made burger with grilled onions, mushrooms, bacon, cheese…..totally awesome. Fries were good too and great pricing.
Have to say this was certainly one of our “go to” places when in PV. Food was good as were the drinks and the service was always friendly – sadly things just aren’t what they were. So far we’ve eaten there three or four times…this year and the food has been pretty decent (can’t complain and very similar to other years) – the drinks – just weaker but passable and the staff have really been trying. I’m sure given a little more time they will turn out to be every bit as good as ladies who have worked there in past. The one issue that has happened on three of the last four visits is ultimately what is ruining this restaurant. When you order a rum and coke and specify house brand is good enough you don’t expect to be charged for a more expensive rum. It is not that it’s a lot more (10 pesos a drink) but you leave feeling that you’ve been taken advantage of. If I have to specify by brand and watch my bill on every occasion then I will just go to any one of the many other great restaurants and bars down the street. Hopefully when the new owner is actually at the bar he or she will straighten this out – otherwise I don’t expect this restaurant bar will survive.More
The moment I got up the stairs I knew something was wrong. What was a bustling place was now a ghost town. Gone were the nice ladies tending the bar and none of the regular clientele were there. The menu is the same. Ordered my…favorite dish the pork chop. What was once a substantial butterflied chop was now the skinniest piece of meat. It must of taken a very skilled meat cutter to butterfly such a skinny chop. Drowning in gravy. I had a hard time finding the meat. It is so sad. Have been going here fo 20 years and now this. Farewell.More
This establishment has recently been taken over by a new owner. Most of the help is new with the exception of the kitchen staff. The atmosphere compared to the older establishment is rather bland, not bad, just bland. It all has to do with the…service personnel interactions with the customer. Basically, they take your order, here you go. Not much for interaction. Smoking is allowed. Not my favorite thing will eating. The food is still priced at a reasonable price and is fairly good thanks to the kitchen staff. The new owner hasn’t had it very long so hopefully things will change with time. I’ll try it again in a few months when I’m back in town.More
Decent food and drinks at very affordable prices. Great burger. Would eat here more often but the smoke keeps us from going back.
The Hungry Cougar is no longer Canadian owned. The food isn’t what it used to be. Servers are trying but aren’t familiar with what’s on the menu.
