Reception gals attitude was the terrible. Food made up for it. Our experience was a solid maybe. We have frequented this establishment since it first opened and over the past season they raised their prices due to “wifi and a/c” ???? and although the quality…remains good the attitude of the front end staff has deteriorated.More
Great quality and service, properly priced, quick and attentive. Very realiable. I usually have the spicy tuna bowl which has never let me down
My wife and I are hooked on the Tropical Poke bowl, with Tuna, Mango, carrots, beans, rice and lots of fresh avocados! Try their 3 sauces. One is like creamy wasabi, another is sweet unagi, and the other one is sriracha-based. It’s absolutely fresh and…yummy, tasty, made to order. You won’t feel bloated or full after eating your bowl. It’s simply delicious and served with a passion. Make sure to try their bottled flavored waters, they go very well with the food. It’s an addiction! We love it!More
This is such a lovely change from ceviche and street tacos . . . Fresh, made to order bowls made your way with love. Ate here (on site/takeaway and delivery 4 x in a 10 day holiday!) spicy tuna bowl is our favorite but mango…bowl a great runner up – vegan options too! This couple has hit it out of the park . . . We’ll be back again and so will our guests!More
We impulsively picked up a Maikai spicy tuna poke bowl at the Saturday market today. We watched them make it fresh and couldn’t wait to try it for lunch. Well, we just shared it and it was fabulous. Just the right amount of heat, very…filling and absolutely delicious. It was very affordable, too. We’ll definitely go back to the market next Saturday or drop by their location next week. Or better yet, both.More
Aloha! Let’s start with the basics! Google says: Spelled POKE…It is pronounced POH-KAY. This traditional dish, “poke”, literally means to portion, slice or cut. Of Hawaiian origin, Poke is ubiquitous in Hawaii and is emerging in other parts of the globe. Despite the distance and…time warp, this scrumptious and very healthy import might just become the new culinary rage in PV. Poke Bowl, located in Old Town, presents a menu of poke bowl options..Brown rice is the common denominator. One then selects from a choice of ingredients.. mine included marinated tuna which, unbeknownst to me was raw, mango slices, edamame beans, carrots, cucumbers, avocados, sprinkled with sesame seeds. The bowl, when served is a work of art. All ingredients beautifully cut and arranged in a pattern. Being from Minnesota, state of 10,000 lakes, where eating raw fish, in any form, is an anathema, I must confess that I gingerly used my chopsticks to remove every piece, total at least 15, of raw tuna. This was indeed a chore since the pieces were small and dispersed among the other ingredients, but well worth the time and effort! Regrettably, I would have preferred to gift to a cat. Come to discover, however, one can order vegan and there is a tofu option, as well. So, no need to shy away if raw fish isn’t your forte. Very generous portion!.Absolutely delicious !Highly affordable! Actually too much quantity to consume for my lunch..but I finished it all as left-over childhood illusions of starving children world-wide floated in my guilt ridden psyche. The restaurant isn’t yet physically completed.. It will resemble a Japanese noodle bar when done; a couple rows of counters with stools that accommodate customers sitting next to each other and facing the same direction. Right now, there is only literally ‘street service’.. that is, a food stand with three tables situated on the street… May I add that the ‘current’ ambiance is unique. Where else can you enjoy a fabulous meal while being privy to the sight and sounds of a building construction site in one’s midst? Puerto Vallarta, of course. At one point, when a huge truck was backing up, I literally panicked, thinking I was going to be run over. Gripping the poke bowl, for the next couple of minutes, I ate in great haste to savor the memory for the hereafter! Now that I know the ropes, I will be back soon! I would be remiss if I didn’t pay tribute to the attentive staff with their eagerness to please. Presentation was lovely, a far cry from what one would expect from street food. {Temporarily qualifies as street food..until the store front is completed] To get to Poke Bowl, don’t be pokey…coming from the Malecon, go east on Madero to 315, right before you hit Insurgentes. Be prepared to order take-out or eat on the street while the new eatery is being completed. Que aproveche!More
I am a huge fan of Maikai’s poke bowls! Fresh, delicious, quick and healthy. Vegan options as well. And you can’t beat the price. I am a pretty light eater and finish their small bowl in one sitting. Their large bowl is about 2 meals…for me, but I have seen some people eat the large in one sitting. Their tuna mango bowl is my favorite as it’s the most quintessential poke bowl taste. But I’ve tried them all and they’re all very tasty! They even do delivery within the Old Town area which is an awesome perk (you can text to order). I highly recommend you try it out. The owners are friendly & wonderful people! Spanish & English spoken.More
We had a friend recommend this place for a quick, delicious, healthy, affordable meal. After spending most of the afternoon at the Fiesta en La Calle, we stopped to get two Poke bowls to go. We both got the shrimp bowls, took them home. They…were delicious, and filling. We will remember and return.More
I can not say enough about this place. Awesome pokebowls, great staff and superb prices! If you go to Hawaii and get a pokebowl it will be three times as expensive and not any better!
My second visit was the last. I don’t think the prices are very expensive, but I would expect a little more of food. Chopped fruit. I can make that at home and not get sick. Why do I say this? After getting sick with salmonellosis,…this site loses points. I’m not saying they’re not clean, but, it’s hard to guess when and when you’re not going to get sick. I am sorry. This was my experience.More
I truly enjoyed every bite! All the ingredients are wonderfully fresh, and the flavor combinations are very thoughtful. We were greeted with smiles when we showed up, and treated to excellent service throughout the meal. I’ll be back SOON!
I had a the BBQ tofu poke bowl here and it was fantastic! Everything was fresh and tasty and the owners were super friendly. I Will definitely be coming back!
OMG!!!! Do yourself a favor and come eat here. The food is SO fresh and the flavors are delicious. The tuna was so fresh and the mangos really compliment the dish. Before we even left, I couldn’t wait to come back. The owners are so…sweet and you can tell they take a lot of pride in their new business.More
