I was fortunate enough to be back in Puerto Vallarta to escape the cold weather back home. Once again I was able to enjoy another delicious meal at Fonda El Cucon and it did not disappoint! This time I had the mole enchiladas and they…were better than I could have expected! They were fully loaded as all the offerings here and the mole was delicious spicy sweet just like I like it. I plan to be back in Puerto Vallarta again soon and will be back to the El Cucon to try yet another delicious plate. Please do yourself a favor if you find yourself in this paradise do not miss a chance to try something you will not regret it.More
Fonda El Cucon …. my favorite go-to since I first came to the Zona Romantica in February 2022 and should be at the top of your list! I usually stop at this intimate restaurant in the mornings on my way to the Zapata Market where…I can opt to sit indoors or at a table on the sidewalk, have my coffee and indulge in the French Toast, which is my favorite, second only to the Omelets! Sometimes, something simple like a scrambled egg and bacon is all I need to start the day, but the cook still artfully embellishes every plate. In the afternoons or evenings, the Chili Relleno always hits the spot, and as I always tend to order the same perfection, I will look forward to investigating all the other savory items on their menu described by locals and tourists alike as “delicious.” *** Don’t forget the Salsa and don’t forget the FLAN, it is too die for *** The restaurant is family owned, immaculate, and the cooking takes place in the open where you see and enjoy all the provocative aromas. Fear no more when you eat here, they don’t use lard to tangle your tummy either! This warm and charming restaurant with outstanding food and service can accommodate your guests but, I would certainly call them first if you need to accommodate a group of 20 or more. This has become my favorite restaurant and will most likely become yours too! The prices of meals are all very reasonable, not expensive, they do not require reservations and they do accomadate the English language. Located right down the sidewalk from the Emiliano Zapata Market on Lazaro Cardenas, just 2 blocks north of Basilio Badillo.More
The food here is outstanding. The chicken with mole is homemade and authentic; it rivals what my abuelita used to make every Christmas in Guadalajara! Do yourself a favor; make the trip to Fonda El Cucon. You won’t be disappointed.
What a hidden gem! Tucked away off the beaten path, we stumbled into this wonderful restaurant. The special for 2 was delicious and included chili rellena, enchiladas and much more. The service was also excellent. It was our best meal by far in PV over…our 10 days. My only regret is we didn’t find it sooner.More
We ate at least two times at this small but outstanding Mexican restaurant in the Zona Romantica in Puerto Vallarta. The server was very flexible with our special needs and we were able to sit outside (especially important during Covid). All in all, a local…gem worth a second look!More
My third visit this month…charming, comfortable, full of ambiance, great menu, excellent service, good value, and a healthy eating experience, as well. The folks who run this gem are health savvy. With lots of eating opportunities in Old Town, ‘Fonda el Cucon’ specifically caters to…your health and well being. Food is tasty without food additives, fats, extra sugar, sodium and calories. Rather, menu offers good, wholesome, tasty ingredients. No sticker shock awaits. Pre- inflation menu prices. Yes, dog friendly and a nice bowl of fresh water provided for your pooch.More
French toast with bacon & eggs – simple but perfect. And a banana smoothie to go with it. 180 pesos ($9 USD) + tip. Can’t beat it. Delightful. I’ll be back for lunch or dinner. Staff is super friendly.
The competition for restaurants is ferocious in Puerto Vallarta. There are always new restaurants popping up and then disappearing. Well, we found another new gem of a restaurant and we wish them much success. On Calle Frederico Madero, just a stone’s throw from our favorite…Mexican Mercado, Emiliano Zapata, is La Fonda el Cucon. The head waiter, Cesar, told us that they had been in business for eight months. That’s a good sign! On our first visit, I had the Enchiladas de Jardin and my wife had the Enchiladas Suizas. Both were excellent. The salsas were first rate. We told ourselves that we needed to come again and try some other options. Fast forward a few days and my wife was not feeling her best stomach wise. A soup was in order. Cucon had a Vegetarian Tortilla Soup that was just what the doctor ordered for her. Picky eater me asked for a Mexican vegetable medley with rice and beans. The chef didn’t bat an eyelash and whipped up a plate full of onions, mushrooms, peppers, nopales (a popular edible Mexican cactus), and carrots accompanied by capable tried ‘n’ true Mexican rice, beans, and tortillas. It was a fresh and delicious Mexican dinner. Well done! Out of all the countless options in Puerto Vallarta, we encourage you to try El Fonda el Cucon. We do so want them to still be in business on our next trip to Puerto Vallarta. As mentioned, the competition for restaurants in Puerto Vallarta is ferocious. Buena Suerte, La Fonda el Cucon!More
Walked past this little gem of a place everyday and finally stopped in for dinner (they are open 7 days a week for breakfast, lunch, and dinner). The food is very good and the green sauce is delicious. This would have been a 5 star…rating but my partner’s beef fajitas steak was over cooked so some pieces were very tough. We didn’t say anything as the staff are so friendly and nice that we didn’t want to embarrass them. We will go back 🙂More
They cook the food perfect, I love the food it taste so good they have breakfast lunch and dinner witch you can get all times
My mother and I were on a quick business trip in the Bahia de Bandeas area. They recommend we try El Cucon. We loved it so much that we ended up eating there at least one meal a day during our 3 day stay! The…food is of the highest quality ingredients. The kitchen is open so that you can see your meal being prepared. The recipes are inspired by the owner’s own classic Mexican cuisine. The owners are as warm and welcoming as can be! That attention to detail and service extends to the rest of the staff. A can’t miss is the aguas frescas which are literally just that! They take advantage of fresh local seasonal ingredients to provide rotating offerings of the refreshing and delicious aguas. The quality of the ingredients, flavors, and service rival that of any large or high end restaurant in Puerto Vallarta or anywhere else in the world! If you happen to be fortunate enough to find yourself in Puerto Vallarta you can’t miss the chance to try El Cucon. You will NOT be disappointed! My family and I have a trip planned in January and I am already counting down the days to come back and try the rest of the delicious menu offerings.More
The food here is amazing and the employees are very sweet. Amazing place to experience Mexican food without breaking the bank. All around great and I do motivate y’all to try this too!
If you are visiting Puerto Vallarta make sure you visit here! I cannot stress that enough. Family owned with great people and food you will never forget.
We visited Fonda el Cucon almost every day, it was our favorite spot. My favorite was the huevos divorciados and the Camarones Maya not to mention the coffee.
Ate lunch with my whole family and loved it!!! From now on a necessity whenever i’m in Puerto Vallarta. Highly recommended!
